Not being able to ride a bicycle is posing no problems for Noel Aquilina, who is set to hand-pedal his way across Sicily in a bid to raise funds for charity.

The Induce 3005 challenge will see Mr Aquilina ride a handcycle, a tricycle powered by one’s arms, from Messina to Pozzallo – a 300km trip – in just 5 days, accompanied by his cycling coach Sergio Sciberras.

“Seeing everyone offering you a sincere smile as soon as you step in makes your day and helps you forget your problems... people at Inspire help you put your disability aside, bring out your abilities and build on them,” Mr Aquilina told www.di-ve.com.

The idea to handcycle across Sicily was proposed by Mr Sciberras, another participant in the Ability Challenge, which was held in a valley in the northern part of Trentino-Alto Adige, northern Italy. Mr Aquilina, citing a love for challenges and considering himself lucky to be highly determined, took up the offer.
