The airport -which costed about 53 million euros- has been ready to start since a long time, but it was thwarted because of a series of delays. Yesterday, Sicily's president Raffaele Lombardo finally signed the agreement protocol which provides airport grounds transfer of property from government to the Italian region. The airport is, now, really close to opening.

Yesterday morning, on behalf of Regione Sicily there were president Raffaele Lombardo and councillor Luigi Gentile, responsible for infrastructures. Moreover, there were: governing board of ministry of defense, Vito Riggio, president of Enac, the Italian civil aviation authority, and Giuseppe Alfano, the mayor of Comiso.

Next Wednesday, Riggio explained, there will be a meeting with the management trust to draw up "A time-planning program which will make the airport open soon.

The first flight should be inaugurated next summer.
