May 18 (Bloomberg) -- Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti may cut spending on public works projects, including funds set aside for building a bridge connecting Sicily to mainland Italy, Il Sole 24 Ore reported without citing anyone.

Tremonti said earlier this month that Italy would trim its deficit by about 25 billion euros ($31 billion) in 2011 and 2012. Some spending cuts may come this year, Finance Undersecretary Alberto Giorgetti said. Tremonti has yet to detail his plans.
