If you have a hectic lifestyle, the serenity of Cava Grande del Cassibile and Pantalica is all you need to relax and unwind, treating the senses to unspoilt views, floral and herbal scents, clear waters, and the sounds of cascading streams and wildlife.

Lovers of unspoilt nature will have a field day here, and both places are extremely interesting from an archaeological aspect. Virtu Ferries has recently launched a new series of excursions for those needing a short break to these places in the Ragusa and Syracuse provinces in the south of Sicily.

A series of steps on an easy to follow path takes you down the Cava Grande del Cassibile – a 520-metre-high canyon, the deepest and most spectacular of the Iblea range.

Spending time in the canyon provides an opportunity to study the flora and very interesting fauna, which includes many species of fish, aquatic mammals, birds and mammals such as porcupines, foxes and rabbits.
