Sampdoria will be without their full travelling support when they visit Palermo this afternoon with fourth spot in Serie A at stake as the ashes of Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull are again wreaking havoc across Italy.
Genoa-based newspaper Il Secolo XIX reports that two charter flights from the Ligurian capital to Palermo have been cancelled this morning as Italian authorities have imposed a no-fly zone in Northern Italy until at least 14:00CET.
The Colombo Airport in Genoa will consequently remain closed and the Samp supporters who had planned to fly out to Sicily only a few hours prior to the game have been left stranded.
Sampdoria sit fourth in Serie A with a two-point lead over Palermo and will qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 18 years if they win this afternoon's encounter.
